Human IL-6
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a versatile cytokine involved in immune regulation, inflammation, and hematopoiesis. It is produced by macrophages, T cells, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts in response to infection or tissue damage. IL-6 triggers acute-phase responses, supports B cell differentiation into antibody-secreting plasma cells, and modulates T cell activity. Additionally, it influences the proliferation of fibroblasts and epithelial cells, contributing to tissue repair and inflammatory processes. Its role in both immune activation and regulation makes IL-6 a critical factor in normal physiology and diseases such as autoimmune disorders, chronic inflammation, and cancer.
Recombinant human IL-6 is widely used in vitro to explore cytokine signaling, immune modulation, and cellular responses. By binding to its receptor complex (IL-6R and gp130), it activates pathways such as JAK/STAT, influencing gene expression and cell behavior. It is also applied in studies on immune regulation, inflammation, and therapeutic development for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and malignancies, aiding in drug discovery and the advancement of IL-6-targeted treatments.
